In 2016, while on tour, my head hurt so much I was hospitalized.
What was initially just a precautionary brain scan, quickly turned into the discovery of brain swelling and the need for an emergency brain surgery.
This surgery consisted of shaving off the right side of my beautiful curls, slicing open my scalp, removing a five-inch in diameter piece of my skull, and sewing my scalp back.
What should have been a fun summer before my senior year of college turned into an 80-day stay in the hospital and a rebuilding of all that I had lost: everything.
“Delayed”
I wrote “Delayed” in 2022, in the midst of severe pain, disappointment, and sorrow in the middle, unknown. Who knew that a few years later the melody that poured out from my pain would be a balm of encouragement years later?
It so sweetly accompanies a message that while we may feel like it’s God who’s delayed, “dragging His feet, not making what we think should be happening, happen” but instead, it’s us with the delayed understanding of
God’s perfect timing.
